Hyperbaric oxygen effects on sports injuries
  • Due to the increase in sports related injuries, it is important to find ways to help reduce the healing time and get athletes back into season.

  • HBO is remarkably free of untoward side effects. Complications such as oxygen toxicity, middle ear barotrauma and confinement anxiety are well controlled with appropriate pre-exposure orientations.

  • HBO has the effect of diminishing tissue damage, which improves microcirculation.

  • The healing of a sports injury has its natural recovery and follows a fairly constant pattern irrespective of the underlying cause. The three phases are: the inflammatory phase, the proliferative phase and the remodeling phase. Oxygen has an important role in each of these phases.

  • Olympic athletes used HBOT and benefitted from faster healing time.

The effect of mild-pressure hyperbaric therapy (Oasis O2) on fatigue and oxidative stress
  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has become increasingly popular among elite athletes and most recently among the general public as a modality to improve fatigue, enhance overall health and well-being, heal sports-related injuries, and promote anti-aging.

  • This study tested 15 young healthy volunteers to see their improvement with the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

  • The testing found that mild-pressure hyperbaric therapy reduces oxidative stress as indicated by a significant decrease in serum ROM, and also helps improve fatigue as seen by a significant decrease in VAS fatigue scores.
